TWO IS MORE THAN JUST A NUMBER

The number two seems so simple. It’s just one plus one. Easy math! But yet as soon as you add two ones together it brings about a whole new perspective. Two isn’t just a number.

When Jesus sent out His disciples they were sent in pairs. (Mark 6:7) Sure it’s fair to say that if they had all divided up they could have reached more territory. But Jesus doesn’t make mistakes. He sent two together for a reason.

Not one single person has all the skill, gifts, or knowledge that’s needed for success. God gives each of us special talents and gifts. Although the Bible doesn’t give the specifics on how Jesus paired the disciples together; I’m sure they complemented each other with their own unique gifts.

By having a partner as they traveled the disciples were able to encourage each other. They were able to discuss the journey and their ministry in order to reduce potential mistakes. They were able to hold each other accountable and push forward even when the days were long.

Whether it’s a ministry, a business, or just day to day life there is power in having more than one person working together to achieve a common goal. Teams matter! Don’t get caught up in lies from the enemy telling you that you can’t trust others so just go do it on your own. That’s not the way Jesus directed.

Several times in my career I’ve seen the best results come from people working together versus people working solo. Even if there are only two. There is a synergy – a level of accountability that we are more inclined to achieve when others are involved. There is an opportunity for strengths and weaknesses to balance out.

Solomon also recognized this in his writings as he unpacked all the things of life that are meaningless:

“This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself, “Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing. Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”  ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭4:8-12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

As you serve Christ, be a team member; whether it’s at home, work, or ministry.  Don’t try to tackle everything alone. As you perhaps delegate activities, think about a team approach. Watch what happens!! ❤️

Remember that our strength comes from God. He is our source of power and endurance, but He will use others in the team to meet many of our needs and goals. Two is more than just a number.
