The Solid Rock I’ll Stand

Have you ever had a song pop in your head and you just can’t shake it off? Last week the lyrics from an old church hymn that I haven’t heard in decades just started playing in my head.

“On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand

All other ground is sinking ground,

All other ground is sinking ground.”

Christ is our solid Rock. What does this mean? David said it beautifully:

“The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.” Psalm 18:2

It means God is our:

STRENGTH

STABILITY

SHELTER

FORTRESS

And rocks can’t be easily moved!!!  God is absolute. Nothing else in this life provides that. We can find refuge in Him when things are crumbling around us.

These are my words written in a journal earlier this year as I studied what it means to be “Strong in the Lord.”

Many times in my life I have lived in fear and felt weak. But I’ve learned to trust only in the power of the Lord, my Rock, and not man. When I retreat, I retreat into God and gain strength. I get my strength from Him. God does not grow weary!!! The enemy wants to defeat us but together we must stand against the evil schemes. Only God can defeat the enemy. Apart from Him we have no strength, no power.

“On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand, all other ground is sinking ground.”
