The High Road
It’s Thursday!! That means it’s almost Friday. Woo Hoo! For those that follow YouVerse I’m sure you read this verse today. These are the words of Jesus!
“But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!” I have to write that again….PRAY for those who persecute you.
There have been so many times in my career where I’ve had to take the high road. I’ve often joked it’s the only road I seem to be on at times. It’s not an easy road, and I’ve often missed the road sign!
What is powerful here is the reminder “to be perfect, even as your Father is perfect.” That means take the high road and don’t seek revenge or retaliation. (Not easy…that’s why we need prayer!)
The study portion of my NLV Bible says, “how can we be perfect? In this life we cannot be flawless, but we can aspire to be as much like Christ as possible.” Hope!
I encourage you today to take a piece of paper or use your notes app and write down the names of those who “persecute” you. Pray for them by name each day.
And don’t feel alone as you travel the high road. I’ll meet you there in worship and praise! It’s the path to Jesus!
“But I say love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. But you are perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.”
Matthew 5:43-48
