The Blessing
Our children’s, children’s, children!
This week on social media I watched as many parents posted pictures of their children’s first day of school. It is an exciting time of year when we purchase new clothes, new school supplies, and school sports and activities start up again! I can remember the feeling of walking into school with a new outfit, new shoes, new backpack, and ready for a new school year to start.
As I was studying the book of Psalms this week I came across some verses that really touched my heart. Psalm 22 was about David who had gone through great suffering to great joy. He had been rejected by his friends and turned to God to lead him out of despair. David longed for the day God would rule over the entire earth. My heart ached for David thinking – gosh I wish you could have known Jesus like we get too.
I want to blog today on verse 30 & 31 from Psalm 22. “Our children will also serve him. Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord. His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born. They will hear about everything He has done.”
I thought about all the children posted on social media and celebrating their first day of school. How many of these children know about Jesus? Do we celebrate Jesus and post pictures of church and our first day of Sunday school? Why don’t we celebrate Jesus more?
Maybe it is because He is not made a big deal within our homes?? Just a thought but please keep reading.
As Christian parents you may be saying right now, I have told my children about Jesus. If you have THANK YOU…but do they really “know” about Him? Like how He acted, how He handles forgiveness, how He loves everyone and treats them kindly?!
And…if you are reading this blog and you do not talk about Jesus on a daily basis with your children, consider doing so. You as parents or grandparents can be a catalyst for everlasting change for generations to come!! We must do our part as parents, so YOU may need to get to know Him also – if we don’t know Him how can we teach our children?
So…do we agree, this is our responsibility as parents to teach about Jesus? Yes they go to church and Sunday school and maybe even a Christian school, but we must do continuous reinforcement at our homes. Read the Bible with them, pray with them, talk about situations and how Jesus would handle them. Teach them how Jesus was loving, kind, and compassionate. Teach them that other children can be mean, but we are to be kind. Show them the ways of Jesus. Teach them the Golden Rule!
I did not raise my children telling them about Jesus, it saddens me but I know God has forgiven me. Thankfully, God does have patience and my heart is the Lords now. I do influence my adult children with my love for Jesus and I pray Jesus becomes part of their everyday lives. I pray for them to do better than I did with their children when it comes to faith and praising Jesus vs the world! I pray you do better also!!
We must teach our children about the Lord so they can teach their children and their children can teach their children. For me I get so excited to think that my Grands can have influence on many many more generations to come.
Just think how these children will learn and be “the change” even within their schools when they learn to love like Jesus. We must think of our children and really all children as our future leaders for God!!
It is never too late to turn toward God and ask Him for help! Unborn generations are depending on our faithfulness today! Influencing and leading our kids in the ways of Jesus is creating generations to come that will keep building God’s Kingdom.
Stay Rooted – we love you!
