We know that we can’t live a perfect life free of sin. Only Jesus was perfect. But, we can try to shadow the life of Jesus in our walk. We must read and study the Gospels to know how to shadow the Lord! Living faithful on earth does require mercy from our God. Mercy is defined as “not giving a person what he or she deserves.” Our God is so merciful…our disobedience to God does deserve judgement. What else needs to happen as a Christian to live a life of faithfulness? Heather and I have faith in ONE true God and know it is a LONG term journey. The Israelites would turn away from Our God and wanted instant gratification with short term benefits. To get this instant gratification – they worshiped other gods and idols. The book of Judges shows us we all want to sin and many of us move forward in sinning, even when we know better. Living around sin and not completely removing evil sin from our lives usually means disaster will follow. In Judges, Joshua dies and the Israelites rapidly decline in following after God and His ways. They turn away from the Lord and follow other religions, worship other idols, and gods. In 1 Corinthians 10:24 Paul is addressing how to support a new believer in Christ. “Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others.” He’s asking us to consider the needs of others. Many of us start out strong in our faith but soon get side tracked by distractions. These distractions can be fear, weariness, lack of discipline, or pursuit of your own interest. In order for our faith to survive and not fade away it must be practiced daily. We must recognize the distractions taking us away from God and then go to Him! Faith must be weaved into every aspect of our daily lives to stay strong. As Christians, we are not justified to God by what we do in any way. James tells us true genuine faith results in action producing good deeds and works, but the deeds and works do not justify us with God. (Justify means – Be in good standing with God) Faith in Jesus Christ alone justifies us with God and brings us salvation; active obedience demonstrates that our faith is genuine and true. We are to obey the royal law as found in scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” James 2:8 The royal law was first given by Jesus himself in John 15:12, “Love each other in the same way that I have loved you.” What is going on in your mind after reading these scriptures…Do you love your neighbor, each and every neighbor?
