Lift the Lid!
As a coach and trainer in the work world, I have come across people who don’t feel they are “made for leadership.” This is NOT true! Every person has the potential to become a leader, so be encouraged and read on!
Leadership is influence and we all can influence someone within the workplace. Along with influence must come a good attitude (good about all things attitude!) with a willingness to intentionally grow. If you think you have arrived as a leader…BEWARE…this can be a recipe for disaster. Leaders who don’t feel they need to grow and only have an attitude of “I have arrived” most likely have become all about “self” with a very large ego! EGO is pride and is really Edging God Out of your life. They may also lead by their position and title ONLY verses leading for the needs of their people.
I learned and truly believe that people do not care how much you know until they know how much you care! This was confirmed last night at a Bible study with many women from work as we talked about walking in our faith in all situations. We need to care as Christians at work!
Caring has changed my leadership style over the last few years and I have learned to really value my team as human beings! When our heart is for the people (Heather says this all the time!) then they will follow us with their whole heart because they know we care. We have to really value our teams as human beings not just what they can get done for us.
“Leadership ability determines a person’s level of effectiveness.” says John Maxwell and this is the Law of the Lid. We must want to intentionally improve our skills and abilities as leaders, remain humble and admit our short comings, and always stay rooted in God asking for any forgiveness we need and also for His blessing for us and others.
When we start to have an attitude for our God and our people…the lid on your leadership will start to rise higher and higher! Don’t stay stuck under a locked down leadership lid, lift it up!
We challenge you to lift the lid on your life (as uncomfortable as this may be) to be all that God would want you to be as Christian leaders in the workplace! This is the way we can step up to the next level of leadership with our teams and have teams that will follow us because they want to not because they have to!!
Stay Rooted!
