ARE YOU LEADING WITH CONFIDENCE?
Several weeks ago I participated in an executive women’s panel regarding the topic of confidence. It really got me thinking! As a young adult woman attending college in a male dominated field my ambition was fueled by the desire to prove myself and prove to others that I could be successful. But 28 years later, when I am asked what fuels my confidence there is only one answer: God. I am nothing without Him.
As I prepared for the panel I spent several days in my Bible reading about confidence. The Bible is the MOST amazing book ever written. Everything we need to know is written on the pages between Genesis and Revelation. #itisallintheBible
As I turned to read Psalm 62 my yellow highlighted words of David caught my attention. I had spent time here with the Lord. It is here we can learn who God is and how to have confidence.
“Let all that I am wait quietly before God, For my HOPE is in him. He alone is my ROCK and my SALVATION, my FORTRESS where I will not be shaken.
My victory and HONOR come from God alone. He is my REFUGE, a ROCK where no enemy can reach me. O my people, TRUST in him at ALL times. Pour out your heart to him, For God is our refuge.”
Believing in these words will change your entire outlook as a leader. When your confidence is in Jesus Christ, you don’t have to rely on humans to tell you if you are good enough. When you are resting in God’s strength you aren’t shaken when your big project or well developed strategy takes a different turn. And when you face adversity and company politics; He is your fortress where “no enemy can reach you.”
Everything in our current culture says, “be strong, you can do it, keep going and reach the top, be confident in yourself!” But God did not tell us to trust in ourselves at all times. He said, “trust in HIM at all times.” Pride is thinking you have all the wisdom you need! Confidence is saying, “I trust in God to direct me on the right path. I can reach the top if that is His plan!”
When you nail that big presentation, give all thanks and glory to God! Your victory comes from Him! Trust in God even when you don’t get deserved recognition or even the next promotion. Wait quietly, take every single matter to God in prayer, and wait patiently and confidently. He will direct your path.
In the margin of my Bible I had written, “Nothing can shake us when we are resting in God’s strength!” Yes!
Love, Heather
