THE BEST SELLING BOOK ON LEADERSHIP IS THE BIBLE!

You may not think of yourself as a leader, but each of you reading this today is a leader.  Whether you are at work, in your home, in your church, or even while out shopping at the grocery store – you are leading.  Why? Because everywhere you go someone is watching you.

“Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else.  For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Mark 10:43

Although it is a common misconception, leadership has absolutely nothing to do with the position you hold.  Leadership is demonstrating who Jesus is to people that may not personally know him.  And when you serve others God sees this as true greatness.  So how do you become a good leader?

Well like we said, the best selling book on leadership is the Bible!   Peter gives us four characteristics of a good leader in 1 Peter 5.

(1) You care for the flock God has entrusted you with.  This could be your coworkers, your family, your friends, your church family. You motivate them with love not power.

(2) You lead out of eagerness to serve, not out of obligation.  Serve with a loving and gracious heart.

(3) A good leader is concerned over what they can give; not for what they can get. This requires an “it isn’t about me” mentality. Definitely not part of our current culture! It also requires us to be willing to invest in others and to help them be successful instead of being jealous of the path they are on.

(4) But most importantly a good leader leads by example! Jesus was the best role model that walked the earth!

Start today and don’t look back. Be someone who adds value to others. We love you!
