No Rival, No Equal
Idols…
Studying through the Old Testament (OT) there are several country’s close to Israel that worshiped other gods, they would bow to these gods through idols made out of wood, stone, and gold.
When reading this it is hard to imagine worshiping a calf carved out of wood or a bird made of gold.
Shockingly, many Israelites would get caught up in the “ways of the world” and would gather these images and worship to them. They would elevate these images and make them more important than our God.
For us today, our idols are much more subtle than in the OT but just as dangerous. An idol for us today is whatever is holding first place in our lives or controls us – this becomes our “worldly god” and we push our living God out of the way.
This is called a modern day idol…so I ask you, “what are yours?” Is it money, success, your kids, material goods, pride, jealousy? A modern day idol unfortunately becomes more important than our living God and takes the place of God and His ways in our lives.
If you recognize a modern day idol dominating your life – you can dethrone it but only with God’s help! Go to God immediately in prayer and ask Him how to make Him first in your life!! He will show you!
Because of our faith in Jesus – the Holy Spirit can fill us with power and strength to move away or prioritize these modern day idols – but we need to recognize they dominate our lives and ask God for help! We are powerless without our God and His strength!
We CAN and will be transformed – both mind and heart. Through this transformation we can commit to make our living God our first priority in our life – but we must take some action!
God has helped me give up or prioritize many modern days idols in my life. God is more important to me than my husband, my children, money, or my career. Obviously – I have not given up my husband or my children, but I put God before them. I can and have put money and my career in its proper place, below God and my family.
Big for me currently is learning to put God before what I think people are going to think of me when I follow Him and His ways 100%. It truly only matters what God thinks of me, not man!
Within my transformation am I perfect…NOPE. Do I still struggle some days with modern day idols coming before God, YES! But… I recognize them and turn to God daily for nourishment and His guidance through the Word. This daily relationship building with Him has made Him the most important person in my life!
I am a daily seeker of God and obedient to our God and His ways. When you become a seeker and take action for the Lord and make Him first priority, it will change your life! Watch how willingly you will release your modern day idols.
The Lord ALONE is worthy of our service and worship, and we must let NOTHING rival Him.
We love you!
