Gifts Day 1 – Gifts are from God

I recently attended the sweetest birthday party for a special little girl. Watching her little hands going for the bows and paper put a big ol’ smile on my face. At one year old the content of the gift doesn’t really matter too much. Boxes and paper typically steal the show!

But could you imagine a birthday where every single guest brought you the same gift? Besides being awkward, that would be a pretty boring birthday.

Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12 that everyone possesses a variety of spiritual gifts. They are described as spiritual gifts because God alone granted them. He is the source! All the gifts God has granted are to be used together as “one body” – one team focused on the same result – bringing others to know Christ! You have a role to play. You have a gift!

If everyone had the same gift we would miss the opportunity to do great things TOGETHER. There’s no need to be jealous, compete with each other, or elevate one gift over another. Everyone has a contribution to make. God has given the gifts. Trust that the Holy Spirit will reveal His gift in your life. Then welcome people with all sorts of various gifts.
