What Is Your Title?
Many know me at work as the Director of Facility Solutions. Yes, this has been the official title on my business cards and how the sales people introduce me to their clients. What is your title at work, how are you introduced?
Intentionally, I want you to pause here so you can really think about this question ….
In the workplace we are defined by our titles. Why? It is so we know where we fall in the chain of command or in the organizational chart of the company or to know what our duties are.
Over the last several months I kept praying for God to search me, search my heart, search my mind, search my soul and reveal any anxieties or worries! The scripture in Psalm 139:23-24 inspires this prayer. My friend Allison taught me in her book “Faith and Forgiveness” to pray this daily – so I have been doing this! It is an amazing way to grow closer to God when we pray scripture.
My title and position at work really did define me for many many years. God revealed to me that the title, money and power were ruling my life. I was putting my career before God.
But Oh Our God! God started working in my life and career once I commited my life to Jesus and really followed Him! It did not happen overnight, so if you are currently enslaved to your career or job, please know there is hope. I have recently acquired an additional title added to my cards – Corporate Trainer! In my opinion, this was all Jesus working in my life and an answer to many many prayers!
Let me explain….
I started reading the Bible in 2016, actually this was the first Bible I had owned. I started in the New Testament in 1John. Then went to the Gospels. I was so overwhelmed and blown away to learn about Jesus and all His teachings. Reading the Bible imprinted Jesus’ way of life on my heart and mind! His character is ideal, the ultimate, the best and I desired to be more like Jesus. #bestgoalever
I started attending church regularly in 2016 with open ears after a 25 year “church break” along with reading the Bible and praying was changing me! My heart was vulnerable but there was just something about how Jesus lived that I did not have in my work life or home life. I desired it and wanted to seek it!
Let me tell you a little back story about me before Jesus! I had career success but I was also called feisty, a control freak, and the other famous “B” word by many I worked with. Most people annoyed me. If I didn’t like you, you would feel it. I was also a fake at many times. I was a gossip and could manipulate any situation. I was miserable and was searching for my purpose. After 20 plus years of working I finally got what I wanted…. the “Director” title I thought I deserved, the salary I thought I deserved and had become “someone” in the work world (in my mind anyway) but… I was still so unsatisfied and something was missing.
Then….Jesus captured my heart at age 45 and I was SAVED! He had been trying to bring me back to Him for so many years but I desired to follow the ways of the world. Jesus gives us free will to choose Him or not. Here are Jesus’ words, “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” Revelation 3:20
When I finally opened the door and let Him in, then my life started to change! We became friends – best friends! See…we either choose to stay in our misery or run towards Jesus with everything we got!! I chose to run to Him.
To be very truthful – it is not always rainbows and dark chocolate when you surrender your life to Jesus. There can be many tears as you are broken down and pulled away from your old ways. We must be broken down into pieces and then Jesus puts us back together – we become a new person in Christ. Through this sanctification process it may hurt, but circumstances do not control our attitudes. Push through because the final goal is eternity with Christ, if we have to suffer on our way there – so be it!
I believe this additional position was an answered prayer. Through my faith journey I have learned God does not call the qualified, he qualifies the called. Being a Corporate Trainer gives me the ability to influence and lead others daily, be a leader by example – a Christian example! How awesome is that!!! When we live rooted in Christ the Spirit will flow out, fruit will be produced. We as Christian working women can be leaders for Christ no matter what your work Title is! I am now enslaved to Jesus vs my career – Praise!
Please know this, the joy and peace I now have daily at work is because of Jesus! Nothing else! Only Jesus. But you have to make a choice, not just know about Him but really jump in the boat with Him and seek Him, follow Him and become love.
Jesus said, “Apart from me you can do nothing!” John 15:5
I heard this scripture in a talk by Terri Broome about our tongues. She also emphasized “…nothing means absolutely “NO THING” you do is accomplish without Jesus. We are not good, we are not getting better, we are changing because of Jesus.”
Chase Him! Learn His ways! Apply them daily at work and at home. It will change your life, I am living proof!
My TITLE written on my heart today is “Servant” to the Most High! I can’t imagine it any other way!
So…What Is Your Title?
