SLOW TO ANGER: Enduring Patience

“He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.” Proverbs 14:29

A mild, patient man is one that learns & follows Jesus, who is Wisdom.  Meekness is wisdom, our Christ was so meek.  Understanding = Wisdom.

Anger is passion, an emotional response of rage, hate and selfishness (hasty of spirit). We must be SLOW to react to this passion per Solomon.

A person who is slow to the wrath (passion) of anger understands themselves and human nature.  They will bear much and are so very patient. Anger is real and many times justified but one who slowly and patiently grasps it vs exploding instantly (like a blow fish) is a person of great understanding – great discernment – great wisdom.

“Solomon requires this to make a wise man: He that is slow to anger, says he, is of great understanding; and, indeed, there is nothing so much corrupts and destroys and infatuates the understanding as anger and passion.” (Thomas Coke)

Unbridled angry passion by a person is folly (foolishness) made known (exalteth) – like a banner that needs to be seen – LOOK at me world!! This person is all fire and tow!  Sparking up loud angry verbal attacks to be known or prove their way is the right way.  “Short tempered people do foolish things…” (Proverbs 14:17).

“Enduring patience” is real, is attainable and we must adopt this way as Christians who follow Jesus. A person who quickly becomes angry will do foolish things but a person with discernment, who is wise, slow to respond – is a patient person. #mygoal

When you feel yourself getting angry, take a deep breath, count to 10 and ask the Holy Spirit to slow you down. Hold your tongue and leave the room if needed.  Recognizing this behavior is key! We must apply discipline in the moment and eventually this will lead to patience – wisdom.

Then…We must take our situation to God!  Good rule of thumb for me is to PRAY and sleep on it. Be slow to respond the next day with this #1 thing at the forefront: to HONOR God in the response not our selfish wants and needs.  We do not always need to be right. We do not get everything we selfishly desire. God’s way is the only way and the right way!

I was known as a “blow fish”, quick to anger for 45 years of my life. Once Jesus captured my heart through salvation and started to transform my heart – now enduring patience filled with LOVE is at the forefront of my mind when I fill with an angry passion. I am a work in progress for sure and do slip – but thank you Jesus for teaching me this!!

May we all lean toward patience today!

Stay Rooted!

Love you all,
