Slippery Slope
Comparison. Now that’s a slippery slope. And unfortunately such a part of our human nature.
What is one thing or person you’ve compared yourself to this week that left you feeling inadequate? Or perhaps you had a moment where you felt like “whew I’m glad I’m not struggling like they are.” Guilty.
Comparing ourselves to others leads to a path of pride and vanity. Paul is addressing the Corinthians because they were comparing him to other flashy, smooth talking preachers that were only saying what the people wanted to hear. These other preachers had large followings; they appeared to be very successful.
“But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measure. How ignorant!”
2 Corinthians 10:12
That is very strong language. Ignorant. Comparing yourself to others as the standard of measure is nothing short of ignorance. Yet, we find ourselves here. So what should our measure be? Nothing short of God’s standards which are given to us on each and every page of the book He gave us. #itsallintheBible
There is no need for us to compare ourselves to others accomplishments or misfortunes. Instead, compare yourself only to God’s word. Ask yourself, how does my life measure up to what God wants? How does my life compare to the life that Jesus lived? That’s the only measure you need.
Happy Friday! Make it great!
