Pure Motives…

The story of Elisha taking over as Elijah’s successor is one to talk about from 2 Kings.

Elijah was a great and famous prophet for God. He was used by God to perform many miracles and represented God in mighty ways. He predicted the beginning and end of a three year drought among many other amazing things.

Elijah was going to be taken away by the Lord and Elisha was able to ask him for something before this happened.

…Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me what I can do for you before I am taken away.”  Elisha replied, “Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit and become your successor.”  2 Kings 2:9

God being the ultimate decision maker, did give Elisha this request.  Elisha’s motives were pure.  His main goal was not to be BETTER or more POWERFUL than Elijah BUT to accomplish MORE for God.  It was not about him and ALL about God.

When our motives are pure, we don’t have to be afraid to ask for GREAT things from God.  Get in prayer and ask God to examine your desires and to rid you of any selfishness as you ask Him for something great.  Make it all about Him and not about you. Become selfless like Elisha. Elisha was not out for his glory, only out to give God more glory!

God wants the best for his loyal followers – how awesome is this!! 🙌🏻

So…as you head into this New Year – be BOLD like Elisha while staying PURE and SELFLESS in your motives.
