LET THE LIGHT IN

The first time I heard the song Let the Light In by Kari Jobe I thought about my sweet Maggie when she was a newborn infant.  The doctor recommended letting her sleep during the day in front of the window so she could get natural sunlight to help improve her jaundice. We were letting the light in to heal her little body.  All through the Bible there are references to light.  Similar to the physical light that helped heal my daughter; God’s light is available to heal us spiritually. His light brings us joy, comfort, and healing.

Our culture reminds us daily of the evils in the world.  All the bad is constantly at our fingertips.  With one swipe we can fill ourselves with one bad thing after another.  But I am here to tell you I see God’s goodness! Over the last few months I have seen God’s light shine so bright in my little town.  I see people who love, people who give so generously, people who pray, people who shine God’s light. Be filled with hope!

“For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of the light.” Ephesians 5:8

As working women of faith we are given this light.  As we grow closer and closer to God in our faith this light shines brighter and brighter.  We can influence those around us with our light; just like the physical light was needed for my baby.  We don’t have to give in to the culture that tells us everything is bad, everything is doom. Just like I’ve seen so much goodness around me and my family through the lights of Christ; you too can be this light.

“The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” John 1:4-5

Despite all the darkness around us, there is a brighter light among us. His name is Jesus! And His light continues to shine in the world! The living Word tells us that “darkness can never extinguish it.” Thank you Lord for this promise!

I encourage you today to not only display the light that Christ has given you, but to also look around for the good that His light provides.  Write down five things today where you see the light of Christ shining in your own life. Share them with us if you would like!

Love from Rooted,

Heather & Lisa

P.S. This was written before the terrible tragedy that struck the many children and their families at Robb Elementary School. I am devastated and my heart is broken.  Please continue to pray for God’s light to shine on this community despite the darkness surrounding them.   His light will provide the healing that is so desperately needed. The darkness will not prevail!
