EVEN WHEN YOU CAN’T SEE
I don’t dream very often. But I recently had a dream that is definitely worth sharing.
I was very sick. I was lying in a bed not able to see or comprehend clearly. Things were cloudy. It was like that feeling when you are in and out of a high fever. The day is passing without knowing if the sun is up or down.
But I could feel that someone was there taking care of me. I could feel a loving touch; a movement in the room around me. I could hear a voice but I wasn’t able to understand any words. My fever raged on.
I later woke up from my fever and was able to open my eyes. I started to see things around me. And that’s when I recognized who had been taking care of me. It was a person I lost earlier this year. I started crying as I realized I had not been alone.
Have you ever had a dream that’s so real that when you wake up it doesn’t feel like a dream? I pondered on it. I prayed about it. And as I sat in my quiet space the dream unfolded.
“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor ABANDON you.”
Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT
This has been a “good hard” year as Katherine Wolf would say. Sickness, death, change, joy, work challenges, and gratefulness all wrapped up together. This is life.
But just like the man in my dream who was there taking care of me in my sickness when I couldn’t see, I know God is also always right by my side. He promised to always be with us and to never abandon us. Scripture even states that our names are written on His hands and that we are always on His mind.
“Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands.” Isaiah 49:15-16 NLT.
I find such comfort in this reminder. I hope it comforts you too! No matter what we do, where we go, we can never be far from God’s comforting presence. He knows our joy and He knows our pain. I’m thankful that this dream reminded me that even when I can’t see, He is there.
“I am with you always, even to the end of age.” Matthew 28:20 NLT
